To boost the Zen program nationally, Widex New Zealand recently held a Tinnitus Masterclass for a number of audiologists. The aim was to provide the necessary skills to clinicians with varying degrees of knowledge in tinnitus management, and this method of approach proved to be a great success.
The fact that the Zen feature can be used as tinnitus therapy is not yet fully appreciated by all audiologists. Widex New Zealand saw this as a unique opportunity to provide information and training to link it with the presentation of Zen as a favourable tool in a tinnitus management program.
The course was held as a one day seminar in two locations with a maximum of 25 participants. An interactive “hands on” session was included to ensure practical outcome for the participants, who were awarded CEP points to attend.
The session was run by Myriam Westcott, an independent Australian Audiologist and a member of The Tinnitus Retraining Therapy Association (TRTA).Over her clinical career, she has developed and refined the content for this type of educational seminar. Myriam modified her material to suit the class size and the content specified by Widex New Zealand.
“Overall this has proven to be a positive experience for us and the participants”, says Nigel Sallis, General Manager of Widex New Zealand. “There may be some scope in providing this training course to select groups in the future.
